Whitney Museum of American Art - August 2017

The Whitney Museum of Amercian Art is located in the Meatpacking District of New York City. The museum itself is an inspiring open space with both indoor & outdoor gallery spaces that sits along the Hudson River.   Current exhibitions, through October 2017,  include Calder:  Hypermobility & Hélio Oiticica: To Organize Delirium.

What was most captivating at this visit was the Calder exhibit on the 8th floor.  In the realm of color, print & pattern - it is the precision of balance & use of color with shapes that held my attention.  Tropicalia, part of the retrospective of Hélio Oiticica, both the viewer & the art had an interactive roll.  As the viewer interacting with the art - new shapes, colors & forms were made in the present moment.  That in itself inspires new ideas & new possibilities out of ideas that already exist. The rest of the museum has an impressive on-going collection that can inspire anyone to think outside of the comfort zone & appreciate another's point of view & vision.
