LOUIS VUITTON - "Volez, Voguez, Voyage" - NYC
Louis Vuitton had an exhibition, "Volez, Voguez, Voyage", at the American Stock Exchange Building in New York City - running from October 27, 2017 - January 7, 2018). Curated by Oliver Saillard. It seem like a "traveling" retrospective of Louis Vuitton. An inspiring look at the history and beginnings of this luxury brand. Also an interesting look at how the brand and product evolved as means of travel, raw materials and technology evolved. Beautiful to see this evolution all in one space. Here are just a few pictures from the exhibit to inspire simplicity, function and luxury.
Rose Wylie - Artist
Rose Wylie is a British artist who currently has a show - from November 30, 2017 thru February 11, 2018 - called "Quack Quack" at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London.
In the realm of design, the relevance of Rose Wylie's work for the upcoming seasons is the use of color, the deliberate repeated marks that threads through paintings. There's a naive chaos about her work that is whimsical, yet has an edge. Her execution of simple motifs & shapes is a perfect source for inspiration for print & pattern reference. Wylie's work is filled with modern conversational inspiration - for motif ideas or just the loose & expressive renderings. What's most inspiring is that her work is intrinsically relatable.

Helen Johnson - "ENDS" - NYC
'Helen Johnson: Ends exhibition' is at the New Museum in New York City.
This is Helen Johnson's first exhibition at an American museum. Large canvas pieces especially inspiring for color, print & pattern in the visual execution of each piece. Every work of art is layered with deliberate brushstrokes, patterns & shapes. On the back of some of the canvases are though provoking messages that are just as inspiring as the visual imagery painted & drawn.

VICTORIA'S SECRET - "Retrospective" - NYC
On the top floor inside the Victoria's Secret Fifth Avenue store is a museum that showcases some of the runway looks from past seasons. Completely over the top, impractical & so inspiring. As you walk the floor, you get to see the concept to creation process. Exquisite attention to detail & nothing left undone.
"Counter-Culture" at the Museum of Arts & Design - NYC
Highlights from Counter-Couture - Handmade Fashion in an American Counterculture at The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.
"Force of Nature" at The Museum at FIT - NYC
Force of Nature at The Museum at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology).
This exhibit was an interesting look on how nature effects fashion. And not just in a digital modern way. Historical botanicals & exotic florals as an editorial of what was going on in the times. Looking at all possibilities of what goes on in nature & how can it be worn on the body as self expression.
Whitney Museum of American Art - August 2017
The Whitney Museum of Amercian Art is located in the Meatpacking District of New York City. The museum itself is an inspiring open space with both indoor & outdoor gallery spaces that sits along the Hudson River. Current exhibitions, through October 2017, include Calder: Hypermobility & Hélio Oiticica: To Organize Delirium.
What was most captivating at this visit was the Calder exhibit on the 8th floor. In the realm of color, print & pattern - it is the precision of balance & use of color with shapes that held my attention. Tropicalia, part of the retrospective of Hélio Oiticica, both the viewer & the art had an interactive roll. As the viewer interacting with the art - new shapes, colors & forms were made in the present moment. That in itself inspires new ideas & new possibilities out of ideas that already exist. The rest of the museum has an impressive on-going collection that can inspire anyone to think outside of the comfort zone & appreciate another's point of view & vision.
